April Fools
The games have already been started by the Brits. However I promise that I won’t fool you with anything. I’d like to bring integrity to this blog, and it aspires to be something more than… Ok. Even I don’t believe that horseshit.

U.S. Copyright Group Sues 20,000 Individual Movie... →
In what looks like it may be a repeat of the RIAA’s litigation against individual music piraters, Eriq Gardner at THR, Esq. is reporting that over 20,000 movie torrent downloaders have been sued recently for copyright infringement by US Copyright Group in Washington D.C. federal court. Five lawsuits have been filed against people who illegally downloaded the films Steam Experiment, Far Cry,...

Production - Day One
We shot two scenes instead of the planned three. We were running too late with the first two scenes, so we had to postpone to third one. Regrettable, but I was really tired (I got zero hours sleep that night) and so was a lot of the crew. I’m still not sure about how well the car scene we shot will cut together, I hope I can make it work… we shall see. However, I’m really happy...

The Stars of Track & Field - The New Score
So I was approached last night by a composer in England that wants to compose a new score for my film The Stars of Track & Field for a school assignment, as kind of a final for his university program. I said yes, with a few small caveats and also asked him if he’d be open to doing some work for Lester Johnson. Fingers crossed.

DSLRs vs. Film →
Nerds only video alert! While film wins (obviously), DSLRs are really doing great in this test. Surprisingly coming close to film. And hearing what well respected DPs and filmmakers have to say is really reassuring that my camera choice was a pretty good one. :)

Lost “spoilers” from last night. I loved the Richard/Ricardus/Ricardo centric episode. It was everything I hoped it to be and more. I still kind of want a Richard throughout history episode, but with 7 of them left, I understand why that probably won’t happen. And the tree where he dug up the necklace reminded me of the tree from The Fountain… might have just been me...

liveinyoursleep asked: Hey, I don't know if you saw my reblog but I didn't mean to confuse/make fun of your name! Jmlol is an inside joke between me and a friend, combining our favorite band (Jack's Mannequin) and lol and the only reason I was laughing at your name was because Drewmaster is a nickname we have for someone we know. Sorry for the confusion hahah and I really loved that picture!

My favorite exchange in The Devil's Advocate
[In Milton's Penthouse]
Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves): [quietly] Is there more to it?
Eddie Barzoon (The Principal from Ferris Bueller): Just this room.
Kevin Lomax: And a bedroom?
Eddie Barzoon: No bedroom.
Kevin Lomax: Where does he sleep?
Eddie Barzoon: Who said he sleeps?
Kevin Lomax: Where does he fuck? (spoken like a douchey Keanu impression)
John Milton (Al Pacino): [coming up to them] Everywhere.

Audio expense.
karenabadmfa: The lovely girl that usually does my sound (boom operating) isn’t available so I am hiring someone to do sound for me. He’s giving me a pretty sweet deal of $75/day for my shoot in 2 weeks and then $100/day for my shoot in May. It’ll be nice to have someone who is pro-active about recording audio. Yeah, I’m hiring a sound guy too, Keenan Jensen, who I went to school with. I...

Supporting Films is hard to do... not.
I just purchased, and am now downloading, the Sundance film One Too Many Mornings, based on Johns August’s blogs about it (you should too, for the next few days it’s only $2 for the download copy if you use the link on John’s site) and liking the trailer. I’ve been watching films like this, and some of the mumblecore films, very closely to figure out what kind of...

Double Hocus Pocus
This is my favorite principle in Blake Snyder’s (RIP) excellent screenwriting book Save The Cat. It’s basically saying that you are allowed one piece of unexplainable bullshit (aka magic) in your script. You can repeat that, or expand on that within the story, but at no point do you add anything other unexplainable bullshit because your film will probably fall apart. Examples of films...

Light+Day I’m still really happy with this. It’s not at all what I want to do with the films that I want to make in the future. But it’s got some nice framing and use of light in it. I was a photographer before I started taking real photos.

The Mist
I love this film. So much that I bought the version that has both the color and the black & white (aka the best) versions. Being a big Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, most of the good Stephen King Adaptations) fan, this movie is cake and ice cream. It’s meat and potatoes. It’s fish and chips. It’s clearly a full meal. It’s not just a monster...

Donations are nice.
Some from friends, some from friends of friends, some from family in China (that’s right, this white boy’s got family in China). This film might get made yet. If you’d like to help out, here’s a link. I forgot to say...
I saw The Crazies a few weeks ago. I loved it. It’s the first movie of the year that I really want to see again in theaters (sorry Shutter Island fans, I ended up liking this more). I might go to see it and The Green Zone this weekend.
